Lake Garda’s famous Roman Peninsola….Sirmione!
Our exclusive boat trip takes a scenic route past the imposing Rocca di Manerba and the magnificent Isola del Garda to the pretty spa town of Sirmione located on the tip of a long peninsula of the southern shore of Lake Garda. The historical town of Sirmione is the home to natural thermal springs and was a spa destination even in Roman times. You will be charmed by Sirmione from the moment you cross the medieval drawbridge over the moat and into the characteristic cobbled narrow streets and delightful piazze where you will find plenty of vibrant bars, restaurants, shops and boutiques, not to mention gelaterie with delicious home-made ice cream! The town is dominated by a thirteenth-century fairytale castle, the Castello Scaligero which is open to the public for a small fee. Climbing the tower of this fortress makes for a fun adventure for children and is a super vantage point to admire views over the lake. At the very tip of the peninsula you will find the roman ruins of Villa Romana. The poet Catullus had a family home in the Sirmione area, so historically this site has been associated with him, and is also known as the Grotte di Catullo. The archaeological ruins are some of the best surviving examples of a Roman Villa in Italy and make for fascinating exploration.
Sirmione is also virtually traffic free with only essential travel being allowed by car for residents. Hurry and book now as this trip is one of our most popular ones!
